Sorry for being so quiet the last little while! I've been meaning to touch base with many of you, but I'm just running out of time in the day!
I wanted to keep you updated on the going-ons in class. I recently brought in a fairly large kitchen that was donated to the class, and the kids are really loving it! We have also been able to purchase a few new toys to play with (gears and magnatiles). YAY! In terms of academics, I have begun reading groups with the SKs and some of the JKs who we think are ready. Now, let's be clear, the term "reading" is being used very loosely here! For some, it means practising the letters of the alphabet while others are beginning to blend sounds. I hope that in a few months time we will be seeing some progression to short high frequency word books. Which brings me to my next request... I have high hopes of replenishing my leveled reading readers. Many have been lost over the years. However, it is a big job. It would be amazing if someone had a few hours to spare to help me laminate the books. However, the laminating cannot be done at school. If you have experience laminating, and time to spare, please let me know!!! In other news, you will be pleased to know that we will be getting help in the classroom! Starting this week, we will have a volunteer teacher in on Tuesdays. We will also be getting a male ECE student who will be with us for 6 weeks on Thursdays and Fridays. Woohoo! Lastly, I believe the request was already made (but I could be wrong), for white t-shirts! It's been a tradition to have the students decorate a t-shirt on their birthdays, but we're running out of shirts! If you have a spare white shirt lying around, please send it in for your child's birthday and we'll be sure to use it! Thanks again for all the Dollarstore (and other) gift cards! You were all very generous! I've already been able to purchase a few games:) Mme Ellis
