Hi! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend in the sun! Just a few things to relate... 1) The poop pictures are up! Not surprinsingly, not everyone wanted to take part. But they all got a kick out of watching it! 2) It seems that many of our students are extra hungry these days. Quite a few have learned how to ask for an apple from the office in French. Over the last week we have run out of our granola bar stash that normally lasts for months. It's probably just a case of "Monkey see, Monkey do" but an extra snack to get them through the day would be great. 3)Over the past few weeks I have started a routine whereby I ask each student a specific question in French at the door as sort of an Entry Ticket. I repeat the same question all week. Many of the students have really improved their vocabulary. I'd say the majority of the class has done really well with this system. Anyway, if you want to practice at home you can check out the videos below to see which questions we have been doing. Please ignore my wet hair:) 4) We are starting a unit on bees. This week we have a guest coming to speak about bee keeping. We will be having a "Bee Day" on May 4th. 5) Jump Rope for Heart is May 11th. (Forms are due then)

Hi everyone, Here's another overdue post! We've been so busy doing fun stuff that I haven't taken the time to write. Here are the upcoming events: - Wednesday April 11th is Antibullying Day. Wear Pink if you have it! - Thursday April 12th is the kickoff assembly for Jump Rope for Heart as well as "wear a Jersey" day in memory of the Humbolt players. - April 20th we will be making poo (as part of the digestive system - pls see below) - April 27th is a PD Day - May 10th is Night Among the Stars and Open House - May 11th is Jump Rope for Heart - May 14th is Scientists in the School (volunteers??) - May 21st is a PD Day - May 31st will be our Art Benefit Night 5-7pm Library is currently on Mondays if you've lost track. And just as an aside, I will be gone for a few days (this Friday and the following Monday). Making Poo (April 20th) I know, it sounds extroardinarily gross. And it kind of is. We will be using allergy free ingredients to demonstrate how food go through our bodies (e.g., a potato masher will be used as "teeth", a ziploc bag as "stomach" and pantyhose as "intestines"). And of course, the grand finale is squeezing out the poo! It will definately be an engaging experience. Art Benefit Night (May 31st) As promised, we will be holding an evening of Art!! The idea is that you will come in between the hours of 5-7pm to view and "purchase" your child's artwork from throughtout the year. The funds will be donated to an organization that is chosen by the class. This will be a black tie event. You will receive invitations at a later date. At the moment there are several parents who are interested in funding a catered event in lieu of teacher gifts at the end of the year. If you are interested in joining forces with them, please send Marissa an email at [email protected]. Outdoor Equipment The kindie team is currently looking at some options to improve our playground. We are looking for the following items: 1. Rain barrel 2. Large industrial spools that can be turned into table tops 3. Straw brooms 4. PVC piping 5. Old tires 6. Old industrial sink (metal kind) 7. Large logs 8. Our class specifically would like to make a bee house. So we are looking for old wooden crates or shelving similar to the picture below. |
