A big THANK YOU to our volunteers yesterday - especially Mr. B, who showed up even though his kid was sick. It was an amazing day, we couldn't have done it without you! For the record, only a handful of students liked pumpkin soup (with coconut milk base). But hey, it was an experience!
I was able to grab more pictures this time...but I didn't get everyone:( Here's one from our walk by the river. Check out the rest in the pictures section. Have a great weekend everyone!

Pictures: I put up some more pictures from last week. Sorry I didn't have enough hands to take pictures of our apple day, but I can assure you that it was a success! Thank you to our volunteers! They thoroughly enjoyed the applesauce. Plus I'm pretty sure no one sneezed in it. BONUS! Pumpkin Day (Wednesday): This wednesday (and all throughout the week) we are celebrating pumpkins! Activities include: - Making pumpkin soup! - Dissecting pumpkins - Decorating pumpkins (Stickers, ribbons etc) - Pumpkin life cycle - Pumpkin lacing and crafting Upcoming dates: THIS Friday Oct 27 is a PD Day! Halloween/Dance-a-thon Oct 31st Photo Retakes Nov 3 Humane Society visit Nov 6 Halloween: Every year JMC does a parade around the school. Students are asked to bring in their costumes and we will give them time to change. Please avoid sending in "extras" that might get damaged or lost (e.g., no swords). The Dance-a-thon will occur in the middle of the day (I believe). Students will basically jump and dance in a dark gym with very loud music and flashing lights. I'm sure they will be pretty excited when it's all said and done! Which reminds me, we will not be accepting FOOD or CANDY for the class. Thanks for your understanding! Art Benefit: Currently the students are working on some pretty great looking art pieces that will adorn our hallway shortly (Kandinsky portraits!). I wanted to let you know that our plan this year is to keep a handful of pieces for the year so that we can hold an art benefit at the end of the year. So if you don't see much coming home, not to worry! We hope to celebrate their amazing creativity in the spring with a black-tie event! If this is not of interest to you, please let me know and we can make other arrangements. Apple day is Wednesday! We will be:
- Learning about the life cycle -Tasting different colored apples -Dissecting and counting seeds -Making baking soda/vinegar apple volcanoes -Making - and eating - applesauce! PLEASE send in an apple! Friday is Tribes. Students can wear PURPLE is they have it. This month's character trait is inclusion. Upcoming dates: Oct 25th is Pumpkin Day (in our class!). We could use volunteers! Let me know if you can make it. Nov 3rd is Picture Retake Day Have a great week everyone! Pictures from the farm are in the photos section!
Un gros merci (Thank you) to ALL the parent/grandparent voluteers that made our day that much easier. It's so nice to have help! The kids had a blast! Wagon rides, raspberry picking, pumpkin picking and a little petting zoo made for a spectacular day. Oh, did I mention the hay bales and the kids play area? I'm sure they were completely wiped out last night. NEXT WEEK: If you have any spare jars you could send in we would like to do a craft. We have some, but not enough. Nothing too big. Jam jars or mason jars are ideal. Merci! Happy Thanksgiving long weekend to everyone. Enjoy! Field Trip tomorrow: Please have students dressed appropriately. We will be outside for the most part. Also, they will be selecting their own pumpkin from the field. If you could send a small plastic bag - ideally with their name on it - so we can keep track of the pumpkins. Merci!
Scholastics orders are due Oct 16th Apple Day will be Oct 18th. If possible, please send in 1-2 apples with your child so we can use them. It would be nice to have 1-2 more parents that day to help. Let me know if you're available! Pumpkin Day will be Oct 25th. More to come on that later (ie - I haven't given it much thought yet:) |
