I wanted to tell you how overwhelmed I was on Friday! The outpouring of cards and gifts from students and their families was really thoughtful! I was not prepared to receive all that attention! So thank you so much for being an awesome community of families! I can't express how much that means. Having families like yours in our community makes our jobs so much easier! To keep you in the loop, there has not yet been a new teacher hired. I believe they are interviewing Monday and Tuesday. Which means, this week the kids will have a supply teacher until at least Wednesday. I have already warned them to be on their best behavior! As for me, it's probably time I set up a nursery:) I'll let you know when the baby arrives! Mille mercis! Mme Ellis For those who are new this year the children get to make their own birthday t-shirt! If you could bring in a white t-shirt close to your child's birthday that would be greatly appreciated. Contact InformationAs you know that Melissa will be starting her maternity leave as of Monday November 23, 2015. You can email Rebecca at [email protected]. As well you can still use their communication book as I check them daily.
We have a field trip booked for December 11th to Mountsberg Conservation Center! This particular session will focus on owls.! We will be needing some volunteers for this all day event. Please let us know if you can make it!
Merci:) Mme Ellis ...is TODAY! (Tuesday). The session is about animals and their habitats.
If you haven't already paid online, please do so a.s.a.p. Merci:) I think that's pretty self-explanatory:)
This week is anti-bullying week. We are talking about being kind to one another as this is an easier thing for young kids to understand. Today, Mme Newman (our principal) came into our class to read a story and have a discussion.
On Thursday, we will be encouraging kids to wear PINK on Thursday as a whole school. At this time it is important to understand the difference between bullying, meanness and being rude. Please see the article I came across on Facebook a while back: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/signe-whitson/bullying_b_2188819.html While we will be talking about bullying, we do not throw that word around lightly and we would like the kids to understand that as well. Typically, young kids don't have the capacity to bully each other. They can be mean, rude and do things to hurt one another but they do not maliciously focus on a specific student to cause harm to. We do take this issue very seriously and do not want kids calling each other bullies. Thanks for your help at home:) Mme Ellis We haven't heard yet about parent/teacher interviews. There is a possibility that they will be on the PD day at the end of the month. However, I won't be able to make it then:( So I thought I would send out a note that I'm willing to meet with anyone who is interested! There are several families that I haven't spoken with very much this year. If you are one of them, and you would like to catch up on your child's progress before I leave, please write me a quick note in the book to let me know when you are available! For me after school interviews are easiest. Or phone calls. Some of you may be wondering what's happening for Remembrance Day:) As is the tradition here at JMC, the entire school will be walking to the McCrae House down the street for a formal ceremony. The ceremony is to begin at 10:30am. Parents are welcome to join us! However, the kindies will not be performing. In addition, this year we have decided to keep the JKs at school. We don't think they will be able to sit through such a long ceremony. If you would like your JK to go, by all means let us know! 1. As you have probably heard, negotiations have completed and things are "back to normal" at school. (sigh!). I can now update you on some happenings in class!
2. We had a busy fall. Making applesauce, carving pumpkins and celebrating Halloween during a Dance-a-thon have been some of the highlights. I've posted a few new pictures for you to see. 3. We have a Scientist in the school event coming up on the 17th in the morning. We will be needing 3-4 volunteers. Please write us a quick note if you think you can come. Also, there is a fee of $8.50 for this event. You can pay online or send in cash/cheque. Merci! 4. My last day will be November 20th. We will update you with information about the new teacher when it becomes available. 5. Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who have made it in. We love having you! Also, thank you to those who have donated supplies (e.g., toilet paper rolls, fabrics etc). We will always be glad to recycle your materials! |
