In case you miss the note in the sac-en-plastique, Wednesday Sept 28th will be my last day at John McCrae. I've been offered a contract position at another school who is in need of a French Teacher immediately.
Mme Miller will continue to be a familiar face in the classroom and I'm confident the students will do well in adjusting to a new teacher. Thank you in advance for your support during this transition. It has been a pleasure teaching your students over these past few weeks! -Alannah McGregor

Hello everyone,
We had our first visit to the school library this week. Library is every day 3. Books should be returned to the school (in the sac-en-plastique if possible) before the next library time. Students who return 10 books successfully will then be allowed to take out 2 books at a time. The next day 3s are: Thursday Sept 29th Friday Oct 7th Monday Oct 17th Here is a link to the day calendar- http://www.ugdsb.on.ca/schools/article.aspx?id=2962 We encourage you to read at home with your child! They may bring a french book home with them. If you are not comfortable reading in french, looking at the pictures together is a great alternative. Reminders: This coming Wednesday Sept 28th is Picture Day Thursday Sept 29th is the Terry Fox Run Friday Sept 30th is a PA day- Students do not attend school on this day Have a great weekend! We had a busy day of fun today in KB! We started the day by exploring more of the beautiful trees at John McCrae. The students had fun running around and finding leaves ,sticks, and bugs! In our classroom the chrysalis we've been observing finally opened up to reveal a monarch butterfly! The students were very exited and we had a discussion about what to do with the butterfly now that it was able to fly. Though many of our students wanted to keep the butterfly in the classroom, we thought it would be best to release him by our community garden.
Reminders: Tomorrow (Thursday Sept 22) is our open house from 5:30-7:00pm. Feel free to stop by the classroom to chat with us and explore some of the learning that has been happening. Friday Sept 23rd is our spirit day and students are encouraged to wear as many colours as possible! Good news!
John McCrae P.S has a new kindergarten classroom. Since the classroom has opened, our class size has gone from 32 students down to 27! We are very excited to have a smaller class to give your students the best learning opportunity possible. If you have not received an email from me about the new classroom, your child will be continuing in our class. Our friends who have moved to the new classroom are in great hands and we will still spend time with them on the playground every day! Some important dates are coming up this month. Open House- Thursday September 22nd 5:30-7:00pm This is your opportunity to stop by the classroom and chat with me! We look forward to welcoming JK and SK families. Spirit Day- Friday September 23rd La Folie Des Couleurs! Today we encourage students to dress in as many colours as possible! We will be sorted into our “Colour House” during a fun assembly and meeting with our Grade 8 Learning Buddies. Picture Day- Wednesday September 28th We hope that your students have been enjoying their time in Kindergarten so far! We're very excited to bring new and fun activities to the classroom once the students have settled into the routines. As always, feel free to email me with questions ([email protected]) or leave us a note in your child's communication book. Bonjour!
What a busy week it has been! Our SKs were very excited to meet the new JK students and have been excellent leaders. Mme Miller and I are looking forward to getting to know all the students better during our time together. A few friendly reminders: Spare clothes- please send a spare set of clothing in a labelled bag. Kindergarten is messy and sometimes students need to change! Quiet time blanket- If you haven’t already, please send a small towel or blanket for your child to use during our quiet time. Home toys- We kindly request that toys (including Pokemon cards) stay at home. This is to prevent them from getting lost or damaged at school. We’ve reminded our students that home toys should stay in their backpacks. Bees and wasps- While we do everything we can to prevent students from being stung, there is always the risk of bees on the playground. We realize that most children this age may have never experienced a sting before and so we keep a close eye on all children for any allergic responses. If you or close family members are anaphylactic to stings and your child has never been stung, please let us know! As always, feel free to email Mme McGregor with any questions you have! Welcome to kindergarten!! As many of you know, I will be returning in December. In the meantime, I would like to formally welcome your new teacher, Mme McGregor, to the classroom! Mme Miller and I are both very excited to be working with her! Below I am posting some documents for you to read. We are trying to go as paperless as possible this year! Hopefully everyone has access to a computer/mobile. For those of you who are new to our site, please don't forget to subscribe in order to receive updates via email. Just scroll down a bit and enter your email in the box on the right hand side of the page. We hope you are enjoying your last few days and Mme Miller and Mme McGregor look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
