I forgot to mention that Pizza and Milk Orders are available online only and are DUE TODAY! I apologize if you weren't aware of this. If you need to get it in and can't make it to school, feel free to email me the form and I'll print it out for you.
Also, the Movie Night food and drink forms are DUE TODAY. Same thing...email me the form if you need to get it in. Finally, I forgot to tell you that we have an ECE student in our room from time to time over the next few months. Her name is Bushra Arif, but we're calling her Mme B. She seems quite capable so it should be a good time!

Hi everyone,
Things have been going well in class! The kids are loving the dinosaurs and the outside time. Yesterday was fun in the snow and today was fun sliding down ice hills:) A couple of things to update you on. Tomorrow, Friday, is Tribes Day. For the assembly, we will be recognizing a student who demonstrates respect towards her peers. We're asking the kids to dress up in formal wear or dress-up clothing. A.K.A. FANCY DAY. Feb 5th we will be having a presenter come in. Her name is Jan Sherman and she is an Anishnabe mother, culture keeper, storyteller, drummer, and spiritual guide. She has done sessions with our students in the past and is wonderful. We are asking for a $2 fee which is now available online for payment. Merci! Feb 12th we will be having a Read-a-Thon with the kindergarten classes. Simply put, we will be having someone come in to read to the students from the RBC bank. There is nothing you need to do. I have also been trying to book something with Goodness Me but I'm having trouble getting in touch. The hope was that we could do some Valentine's Day baking over there. But as it stands now, I might have to figure something out on our own because I haven't heard back from them. I'll be in touch! Lastly, they have hired someone to replace Mme Germann. His name is Douglas James and he will be starting on Monday. We will be asking him to teach music and science-type activities. Thanks for your continued support! Mme Ellis Welcome back to everyone! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable break.
I just wanted to let you know that we don't have too many events planned for the next little while. January is unofficially dubbed the "report card writing month" so I will be busy getting that done. We also want to spend this week getting back into our routines. So we're taking it easy so to speak. Having said that, I do want to continue with our cooking tradition. On Thursday we will be making Greek New Year's Cake (Vasilopita). We will put money in their cake and the person who receives it is said to have good luck for the year. Mme Germann is still away for the unforseeable future. So for the moment, we have Mr. Kinley with us. He is familiar with the students from his time with them in December. This week I also hope to start our take-home backpack program. In the past, we have sent home a teddy bear (or another animal) for the kids to have at home. This year I thought I would change the program to incorporate cooking. Over the next few months the backpack will circulate to each student. I will ask you to record a recipe that you have done with your child in the journal along with a photo (which can be emailed separately to me if that's easier). Your child will then have the opportunity to present their experience with the class when they bring the backpack back. I will send it home in alphabetical order so that kids with names starting with A will receive it soon. Happy cooking!! |
A little bit about Mme EllisI have worked in Guelph for 8 years and have been teaching for 12 years. It is my 6th year at John McCrae and I love it! I have 3 young kids at home, so I know exactly what you're going through! A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MS MILLER... I have been working as an ECE for 18 years and have a young child at home. This is my 6th year working with UGDSB, I am excited for the school year to get started and getting to know everyone. Hope everyone had a great summer! Archives
