Thank you to everyone who submitted their forms and payments already. We are looking forward to our first field trip on Friday! Unfortunately the weather doesn't sound too great, right now they are calling for rain. Please check the weather and make sure the students are dressed appropriately.
Those parents who will be joining us with little ones in tow, please be advised that due to insurance reasons, the little ones cannot join us on the school bus. You are encouraged to drive yourselves. If you are planning on doing so and you decide to take your kindergarten student as well, please write us a note to let us know. The students will all be receiving a pumpkin and a gourd to take home with them so please make sure they have bags that can accommodate these. Mme Ellis

As you've probably noticed the students started library this week. You should know that the library period is scheduled for Day 2. That will be when they can exchange books. Right now that corresponds to Wednesdays, but that will change after the long weekend. Happy reading! We have recently obtained a large horse trough - and have access to a second - to help beautify our kindergarten yard! But, the trough needs plants! If you or anyone you know has extra fall plants please let us know! We will gladly take them off your hands!
John McCrae is a school that prides itself on inclusiveness and collaboration. We strive to meet all the needs of all our students. In our class this year we have several students with dietary restrictions. In many other classrooms teachers and parents often use food to celebrate special events such as birthdays, Halloween and Christmas. This year I will be eliminating food in the classroom as part of our celebrations. The reason for this decision is that these students are often left feeling isolated and excluded from their peers because they can't eat the same things. Having these sorts of celebrations does not help students with special diets to gain a sense of belonging in their own classroom. Additionally, these celebrations often include foods that are unhealthy. Instead of celebrating with food, we plan on making these days special through arts and crafts and other special ceremonies. I'm confident that the students will thoroughly enjoy themselves without the extra sugar! Please let me know if you have any questions. Sorry for the delay in this...I didn't realize the school was posting this only online. (Unless you requested hard copies for everything). Milk and Pizza order forms are now on the school website: http://www.ugdsb.on.ca/jmc/
You are encouraged to use the online payment system as well. So the first week with a full class is done! The JKs have (for the most part) integrated quite well! I'm VERY impressed with many of them...already following directions well! We only had a few "meltdowns", so all in all I would classify it as a success! The SKs have been very helpful with helping their buddies along the way. Merci à tous! It is going to be a lovely "little" class of 25!
As for next week, we will be starting to learn more French - specifically les couleurs. As it turns out, Monday is the International Day of the Dot! What a perfect way to start learning our colors! I've sent home notes to ask that the students wear dots on Monday if possible. I would also like to thank everyone for sending in all their forms. I am still missing some, but plan on putting together volunteer calendars and Friendship lists soon. If you are planning on volunteering, you should know that John McCrae does not require police clearance checks. We are also grateful for all the supplies that have been brought in. Please be aware that the list that was sent home was a suggestion only. Do not feel obligated to purchase all the items on the list (although I won't complain if you do!). We are also collecting "beautiful junk" in the form of plastic water bottles, cardboard rolls, egg cartons or anything else that you might have lots of! If you have large amounts of "junk" I will find a use for it! (Pinterest is my best friend). We are also collecting family photos. Please send them in a.s.a.p. Have a wonderful weekend! Mme Ellis |
