Thank you to everyone who made it in for interviews last week. It's always nice to get more insight into your children! If you didn't yet have a chance to see us, please let us know. Winter Concert: We will be having our winter concert on Wednesday December 13th from 12-1pm. Please meet us in the gym and enjoy the songs we've been practicing! After the concert, we will have a picnic. Due to the many allergies in our class, we ask that everyone bring in their own lunch and picnic blanket if you have one (we have some). A few safe snacks will be provided for everyone. Merci! Holiday Gifts: Mme Miller and I wanted to let you know that if you were considering buying gifts for us we would like you to consider purchasing something for the class instead! We still spend our own money on many items in the classroom so we will gladly accept donations to the class such as games, puzzles, toys, books or gift cards! Of course, there is no obligation. I just wanted to put that out there. Teddy Bear Project: In the new year will will be starting our take-home teddy bear (and journal) project. As some of you may remember from last year the teddy bear stays with your for a few days and you chronicle your events together in the journal. This year, I thought it would be neat to make our own teddy bear. If everyone could send in a scrap of fabric or an old piece of clothing I was planning on piecing together a teddy bear over the holidays. (FYI this could totally bomb, I make no promises!) The only criteria is that is has to be cotton. Not linen or jersey (t-shirt material) or anything else that is hard to sew with. But hopefully, by January, I'll have something that looks like this: Twelve Days of Giving:
There is a school campaign beginning in December to collect goods for people in need. Below is the schedule of donations if you are interested. Here's the list of what we will collect each day (all items will be accepted on ANY day!) Day 1 - Hats, Mittens & Scarves [Round #1] Day 2 - Toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste, hair brushes, etc.) Day 3 - Food Donations [Round #1] Day 4 - Hats, Mittens & Scarves [Round #2] Day 5 - Paper Products (Kleenex, toilet papers, paper towel, etc.) Day 6 - Food Donations [Round #2] Day 7 - Hats, Mittens & Scarves [Round #3] Day 8 - School supplies & books (new or gently used) Day 9 - Food Donations [Round #3] Day 10 - Hats, Mittens & Scarves [Round #4] Day 11 - Coats/Boots (gently used) Day 12 - Food Donations [Round #4] The Recipient(s)

Hello again!
So it seems I have lost my marbles. I know. Some of you will say I'm too young for that...but it's true. I'm calling it Early Onset Marbles Loss Syndrome. I blame the kids. Both mine and yours. In short, I've been mixing up dates and I need to reschedule! I know I told you we would have Veggie Soup Day on Nov 29th, but that's NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE I'M NOT EVEN AT SCHOOL. Big oops on my part. Also, I mixed up the Orange Shirt Day which I told you was on Nov 8th. Thank you to those who participated. In fact, that was the dress rehersal. The REAL date is Nov 28th! Lastly, I was hoping to get the kids to make sock puppets with their reading buddies on Monday. This Monday. If you have a spare sock lying around pls send it in. Thanks! So, let me recap. Nov 20th - Sock puppets. Pls send in a sock! Nov 27th in the afternoon (11:50-3:05)- Scientists in the school (4-5 volunteers) Dec 6th - Veggie Soup Day - Pls bring a veggie! Dec 8th - Mountsberg Field Trip (unlimited volunteers) Halloween Pics are Up! - I totally forgot about these. Sorry about the delay. Also, the students did a really good job on Friday while they sat in the cold weather throught the Remembrance Day ceremony. I honestly thought they would have a harder time with it. Thank you for sending them to school prepared!
So this week we will be starting an inquiry into boats - what materials float and sink. It should be fun! And wet. We will also be changing our dramatic play centre into a puppet theatre. If you have any puppets lying around that you would like to send in please be our guests. Please include a NAME on the puppet somewhere if possible. Mme Miller and I were thinking about incorporating more cooking/baking into the program since our latest ventures have been successful. So, next up is Veggie Soup Day! We were hoping students could bring in ONE vegetable to put in the soup. We will be cooking on November 29th. Any volunteers available? Upcoming events: November 27th - Scientists in the school (4-5 volunteers needed) November 29th - Veggie Soup (1-2 volunteers needed) Dec 8th - Mountsberg Field Trip (as many volunteers as are available) A quick reminder if you would like to book an interview AFTER SCHOOL instead of the 23/24th of november, please let me know! C'est tout! Merci et bonne semaine! Picture Retakes : Is this Friday Nov 3. Please write us a quick note if you would like retakes. No forms necessary.
Humane Society Visit: Nov 6th Orange Shirt Day: Nov 8th Remembrance Day: Nov 10 @ 10:30am @ John McCrae House (down the street). Parents welcome! Parent-Teacher Interviews: Officially speaking, interviews are held the evening of the 23rd and the whole day on the 24th. Parents are given 15 min slots. The sign up will be available on Nov 16th at 4pm at webapps.ugdsb.on.ca/InterviewSchedule/Account/Login Mme Miller and I are willing to make ourselves available any day after school between now and then to alleviate the crazy back to back interview schedule that would typically occur on the 23rd/24th. We find it sometimes difficult to squeeze everything into 15 minutes! So if you would prefer to meet another day, please let us know! Student Teacher: Please welcome Mme C into our class! She started with us yesterday as a student-teacher. She will be with us once a week until December and then for 2 weeks straight. As part of her program, she will be responsible for teaching a portion of our kindergarten program. #Winteriscoming: As you've no doubt noticed, it's getting colder! Just a reminder that we do spend a good portion of the day outside. In fact, we have been enjoying weekly walks by the river once a week (On day 5s - which is Thursday right now). So please make sure your children are ready for the weather. Speaking of clothes, we do our best to keep track of all the new warm clothing items but we do find ourselves putting things in the lost and found on a daily basis. Please help us out by putting your child's name on EVERYTHING! I don't know how many times I've held up a sweater in front of the class that goes unclaimed...only to be claimed later. Library Day: Is on Day 2, which is MONDAY for the time being. |
A little bit about Mme EllisI have worked in Guelph for 8 years and have been teaching for 12 years. It is my 6th year at John McCrae and I love it! I have 3 young kids at home, so I know exactly what you're going through! A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MS MILLER... I have been working as an ECE for 18 years and have a young child at home. This is my 6th year working with UGDSB, I am excited for the school year to get started and getting to know everyone. Hope everyone had a great summer! Archives
