Hi everyone, It seems like the students are getting used to school by now. There is definitely lots of fun happening and many many "marriages" taking place among the students. I myself have even received a few proposals! But in all seriousness, it seems like the anxiety and apprehension is lessening and friendships are beginning to appear. So exciting! Family Photos Thank you to everyone who sent it in. I am still in need of a few more. Please send in a.s.a.p. Art Benefit Mme Miller and I have decided to make this year an Art Benefit Year. Some of you are familiar with the event. We will be keeping nice artwork throughout the year in order to "sell" them back to you in the spring at our Art Benefit in order to raise money for an organization that the class chooses. (Donations of any amount will be accepted). We will provide further details later but I just wanted you to know that you won't be receiving any of the nicer pieces of art until the spring. I hope you can attend! Parents in the Yard If you happen to drop off your child in the morning, please do not enter the Kindergarten Yard. We are finding we have a ton of parents in the yard and it is really hard for teachers to supervise our students. Please hug and kiss at the fence and go. Please do not hang around the gate area. Merci beaucoup! Ollie le lapin The class next door, Mme Katsaounis and Mme Proude's class, have a lovely not-so-little rabbit named Ollie living with them. Ollie is always on the lookout for a temporary home on the weekend. If you wanted to adopt him for a couple of days, please contact Mme Katsaounis at [email protected]. She would be glad to help. Yard Supplies We are looking for several supplies for our kindergarten yard. Surprisingly, things just seem to disappear or get broken at recess:) If you have any of the following supplies that you would like to donate, please send them in.
Haunted House As you prepare for the fall and Halloween please let us know if you have any decorations you would be willing to donate. We have decided to go ahead and start a haunted house in our class in a few weeks and will be looking for any kind of decorations (e.g., spider web string, spooky lights, etc). Merci! Food in the class I just wanted to mention that Mme Miller and I would prefer that treats are not sent in for birthdays or holidays (a.k.a Halloween). We strive to teach them about healthy food choices as much as possible and are encouraging non-food related gifts. Also, please keep in mind we have a student with allergies. So if you are really keen on sending in food, please consider straight up fruits and veggies. It's amazing how fast they get eaten when we put them out! Having said that, we also want to mention that we do enjoy cooking with the kids. Every month we try to implement a cooking day and often seek your help with donating ingredients. Our first event will be making Applesauce (with apples from Chudleighs) on October 18th. Stay tuned for yummy adventures! Upcoming Events September 30 - Orange Shirt Day Friday October 4 - Versey's Bulb Order Due Monday October 14 - Thanksgiving Holiday Wednesday October 16 - Chudleighs Orchard Friday October 18 - Making applesauce Thursday October 31 - Halloween and Dance-a-thon Friday November 1 - PA Day

Hello again,
Tribes/Tribu Tomorrow is Tribes. Tribes is our school spirit program. We have assemblies every month to celebrate different character traits (e.g., honesty, collaboration etc). Classes are divided into colour groups. This year we will be in the YELLOW group. Students are asked to wear the colour YELLOW on the assembly days. So, if they have yellow, please ask students to wear it tomorrow! Merci! Weekly Schedule Every morning we spend time in the forest. Once inside we then do some carpet time followed by a few centres (literacy, math, fine motor etc). On certain days, Mme Horack is with the students. She is working with them on science and math activities. The end of the day is always FREE PLAY! Here are the various amendments to the schedule: Day 1 : Mme Horack, & Gym (although we often just stay outside when it's nice), Reading buddies/library with Mme Bird's grade 7 students. Currently we are using this time in the library for book exchange. Day 2: Walk by the river followed by journal writing Day 3: Mme Horack Day 4: Working towards making this an outdoor day (the entire day outside!) But we're not quite there. Day 5: Mme Horack Terry Fox Our class will be running/jogging/walking around the baseball diamond here at school. If you were planning on volunteering, we will likely have you join us there. Please make sure they are dressed appropriately! Hi everyone,
Well, that's a wrap! The first week with all the students is finished and I must say it went well! Mme Miller and I love getting to know the new students. (I apologize to the SK families who aren't getting many pictures right now lol). Today has been a little tougher for a few of our JKs who have been holding it together all week and now they're just tired. But generally, everyone is progressing well! JKs are making new friends and SKs are doing a fantastic job of being older buddies. Bravo à tous! Just a couple of things to let you know about: 1) Please make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather! We've already had to hand out a few coats this week. 2) Pizza and Milk forms are due back Sept 26th. We cannot accept late forms. 3) Please send in a picture of your family a.s.a.p. to [email protected] Preferably in digital format so I can make a book. Thanks! 4) Everyone should have been invited to access the google photos by now. If you still don't have access, please let me know and I'll figure it out. 5) Don't forget that Dot Day is on Monday! Students are invited to wear dots if they have them! C'est tout! Have a great weekend! Mme Ellis Welcome back! (almost) I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! Mme Miller and I are looking forward to seeing everyone again next week! If your child is now entering grade 1, you may want to unsubscribe from the blog. There should be a link at the bottom of the email. But before you go, perhaps you would like to see how Blackjack is doing!? Apparently his new owner was suprised at how big he was growing and wanted to know what kind he was. Turns out we're not entirely sure. I had purchased a mishmash of eggs... Anyways, he's doing well! I also thought I would send out our wishlist for those of you who are interested in helping us out and would like to get it done ahead of time. Voici our list for this year: We will be meeting our new JKs on Wednesday for their lemonade party:) Just like in previous years, they will have a staggered entry the first week and then everyone will attend school full time on Monday the 9th of September. We have a slightly smaller class this year - 24 students. Lastly, I have some caterpillars in the class already. However, if you are out and about and would like to collect more that would be amazing! We are looking for monarch caterpillars who can be found on milkweed. I found many at the entrance to Starky Hill. But milkweed is often found in big fields or at the edge of the road. Happy hunting! I hope everyone has a wonderful re-entry into school! I can't wait to hear about everyone's summer adventures! See you all next week!
A big thank you for the wonderful year end gifts. We were spoiled!
This has been an amazing year. We have so many memories and had so much fun teaching this class. Please have a safe and wonderful summer and see everyone in September. Melissa and Rebecca Tomorrow is WATER FUN DAY! Please send in bathing suits, towels, hats and sunscreen.
Also, I forgot to mention that I have been working really hard all year to create your personal photo albums on google photos. I know many of you do check them, but if you have forgotten about it, or need the link again, please let me know! Each student has about 300 photos on there. Happy last few days! I just wanted to confirm that the picnic is ON! The weather looks decent! If it does happen to rain we will move to the school gym but I think we'll be ok for the Hippo park.
We'll have the kids go the the washroom before we leave so we'll likely be there closer to 1:45. I'll have them bring their lunches as well. Please meet us there or at the school, whichever is easiest. Jump Rope Prizes CONGRATULATIONS! I can't even believe it. Apparently our class alone raised $1380. I had no idea! A BIG thank you to everyone. Please take your prize home if you're here today. Meet Blackjack! So far, the one and only chick to have hatched (yesterday). If you're here tonight for Family Fun Night, please come and check him out. Also, please feel free to take home the egg and nest your child made on the counter! Bug Spray
We're finding there are lots of mosquitos in the forest. Bug spray is encouraged if you have it. Recipe Book One of our gracious parents has offered to have our recipe book published! I haven't had a chance to make up a form yet, but if you're interested, please send in $6 A.S.A.P. It should be available online shorly. I will need payment by Thursday June 13th. Sorry, the website didn't update properly. Please note the new time!
And just like that, it's JUNE.
A couple more events to tell you about: June 6 - Family Fun Night 5-8pm June 7 - PD Day June 11-12 - Tie Dying T-shirts (depending on the weather - please dress in crummy clothes!) June 19 - Family Picnic from 1:30-3pm June 26 - Water Play Day (bring bathing suits, towels, hats and sunscreen) June 27 - Last Day of School Family Picnic For this event we were hoping to have the parents/grandparents come at 1:30. If the weather is nice we will be walking to the hippo park (On Water St near the Boathouse). Alternatively, you could meet us there. Everyone is in charge of their own food and picnic blankets. We will have a few presentations but otherwise it will be low key. I will hopefully be posting again later this week when the chicks hopefully hatch! Stay tuned! Melissa |
A little bit about Mme EllisI have worked in Guelph for 8 years and have been teaching for 12 years. It is my 6th year at John McCrae and I love it! This is my 6th year working with UGDSB, I am excited for the school year to get started and getting to know everyone. Hope everyone had a great summer! Archives
